The WHAAM app simplifies applying evidence-based practices (EBP) in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This technology effectively reduces problem behaviors in children, enhancing clinical, educational, and family communication.
Area of Science:
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Technology in Education
- Behavioral Interventions
Background:
- Recent computing technologies can enhance the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBP) in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Simplifying EBP application is crucial for effective behavioral interventions.
Observation:
- The WHAAM application was utilized in two case studies to demonstrate technology-assisted EBP.
- Methods included monitoring dysfunctional behaviors, collecting data, direct observations, and visual charting.
- Interventions were evaluated using the TAU-U statistical index.
Findings:
- Significant reductions in children's problem behaviors were observed and recorded.
- The duration of 'getting out of bed' behavior decreased (r = -.79, TAU-U = -.58, p < .05).
- The frequency of 'interrupting others' behavior significantly decreased (r = -.96, TAU-U = -.82, p < .01).
Implications:
- The WHAAM application is an effective tool for supporting functional behavior assessments.
- Technology can facilitate EBP implementation for ABA practitioners.
- Enhanced communication between clinical, educational, and family environments is a key benefit.
