Normal patterns of regional brain 18F-FDG uptake in normal aging

Normal aging significantly reduces brain glucose metabolism, particularly in the supratentorial regions, as shown by fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET scans. Cerebellar uptake shows less reduction, and females exhibit higher uptake.
