  • Factor analysis revealed key competence areas: assessment, professional foundations, planning/preparation, educational methods/strategies, and evaluation.
  • Novice instructors prioritized training in communication, learner motivation, educational design, and qualifications.
  • Experienced instructors required the most training in equipment status checks and educational environment management.
  • Assessment emerged as the most critical competence factor for BLS instructors.

Conclusions:

  • BLS instructor competence is multifaceted, encompassing assessment, foundational knowledge, pedagogical skills, and evaluation capabilities.
  • Training programs for BLS instructors should be individualized based on their experience level to address specific needs.
  • Developing expertise-specific, competence-based training is essential for improving the quality of BLS education.
