This study introduces novel matrix-based channel hopping (CH) schemes for cognitive radio networks. These methods improve rendezvous by using local available channels, significantly reducing time-to-rendezvous (TTR) for secondary users.
Area of Science:
- Wireless Communication
- Cognitive Radio Networks
- Signal Processing
Background:
- Channel rendezvous is crucial for secondary user (SU) communication in cognitive radio networks.
- Existing channel hopping (CH) schemes often rely on global channel sets, leading to long rendezvous times due to varying local channel availability.
- Limitations in SU sensing capabilities further exacerbate the time-to-rendezvous (TTR) issue.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose novel matrix-based channel hopping (CH) rendezvous schemes tailored for distributed cognitive radio networks.
- To address the inefficiency of global channel set-based CH sequences by utilizing only the local available channel set (ACS).
- To theoretically guarantee and demonstrate the full diversity rendezvous capability of the proposed schemes.
Main Methods:
- Development of two matrix-based CH rendezvous schemes.
- Generation of CH sequences based exclusively on the local available channel set (ACS) for each SU.
- Theoretical derivation of upper bounds for maximum time-to-rendezvous (TTR) to prove guaranteed and full diversity rendezvous.
Main Results:
- The proposed schemes ensure guaranteed and full diversity rendezvous.
- Theoretical upper bounds on maximum TTR were derived, demonstrating improved efficiency.
- Extensive simulations confirmed superior performance compared to existing methods, particularly in reducing TTR.
Conclusions:
- The matrix-based CH schemes effectively utilize local channel availability for faster rendezvous in cognitive radio networks.
- These novel approaches significantly outperform existing methods in terms of time-to-rendezvous (TTR).
- The findings offer a practical solution for enhancing SU communication efficiency in dynamic spectrum environments.
