  • A 49-item survey assessed technology use (mobile phones, internet, social media), privacy concerns, and barriers.
  • Multivariate logistic regression analyzed the relationship between participant characteristics and technology use.

  • High mobile phone ownership (86%) and text messaging (TM) use (96%) were reported.
  • Nearly half had desktop computer access (48%), and most had internet access (67%).
  • Smartphone ownership correlated with higher education; homeless individuals were less likely to own phones. Technology was used to find addiction treatment resources.

  • Inpatient detoxification patients demonstrate high mobile phone and TM usage.
  • Technology can facilitate access to addiction treatment services for this population.
