[Sonographic imaging and staging of colonic tumors]
1Chirurgische Abteilung, Kreiskrankenhaus Goslar.
Abstract:
Out of 25 clinically, endoscopically or radiologically assured colonic carcinomas 84% could be imaged by sonography and 71% of those could be staged correctly. There were no differences in imaging of carcinomas between different parts of the colon. Sonographic detection of lymphnodules was only partially successful, whereas metastases of the carcinomas were shown in 6 out of 7 cases. Thus sonographic investigation of the colon may provide non-invasive staging of an assured colonic carcinoma and its follow-up controls.
