Summary

This case report details a successful multidisciplinary treatment for a rare high-grade thyroid sarcoma. A combination of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy achieved disease-free survival for the patient.

Background:

Thyroid sarcomas are exceptionally rare malignancies with no established treatment guidelines.
Multidisciplinary management is crucial for rare and aggressive tumors like high-grade spindle cell sarcoma of the thyroid.

Observation:

A 25-year-old female presented with persistent high-grade spindle cell sarcoma of the thyroid post-thyroidectomy.
Initial treatment plan included neoadjuvant chemotherapy, surgery with intraoperative radiotherapy, and postoperative intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

Findings:

Chemotherapy was ceased due to disease progression, proceeding to surgery with intraoperative radiotherapy.
The patient completed treatment with postoperative radiotherapy and remained disease-free for 36 months post-therapy with no significant late effects.

Implications:

This case highlights the potential efficacy of a combined modality approach in managing rare thyroid sarcomas.
Sharing such case reports is vital for informing clinical decision-making and developing treatment strategies for thyroid sarcomas.
