Impact of Ad Libitum Versus Programmed Drinking on Endurance Performance: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis

Athletes hydrating ad libitum (ALD) or with programmed drinking (PD) showed similar endurance performance (EP) over 1-2 hours. Despite consuming less fluid, ALD did not significantly impair performance compared to PD.
