We synthesized tunable core-shell gold-platinum (Au@Pt) bimetallic nanoparticles using a sonochemical method. These Au@Pt nanoparticles show potential as sensitive glucose sensors, with a low detection limit.
Area of Science:
- Nanomaterials Science
- Electrochemistry
- Sensor Technology
Background:
- Bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs) offer unique synergistic properties.
- Gold-platinum (Au@Pt) core-shell NPs are of interest for advanced applications.
Purpose of the Study:
- Synthesize Au@Pt core-shell NPs with tunable shell thickness.
- Evaluate the potential of Au@Pt NPs as a glucose sensor.
Main Methods:
- Sonochemical synthesis of Au@Pt NPs with varying Au:Pt molar ratios.
- Characterization using SEM, TEM with elemental mapping, and XRD.
- Amperometric detection of glucose.
Main Results:
- Successfully synthesized Au@Pt core-shell NPs with sizes ranging from 47-60 nm.
- Demonstrated tunable platinum shell thickness by controlling precursor ratios.
- Achieved glucose detection with two dynamic ranges (0.5-50.0 µM and 0.05-10.0 mM) and a low detection limit of 319.8 nM.
Conclusions:
- Sonochemical synthesis provides control over Au@Pt NP structure and properties.
- Au@Pt NPs exhibit promising performance for sensitive glucose detection.
