Sleep is an essential physiological process vital to maintaining overall well-being. The reticular activating system (RAS), a network of neurons in the brainstem, regulates wakefulness and sleep. Summary

Pannexin-1 (Panx1) mutation significantly alters the sleep-wake cycle in mice, increasing wakefulness and movement. This finding may explain sleep disturbances in individuals with Panx1 mutations.
