Summary

Dental students may receive higher grades from adjunct faculty members compared to full-time faculty in clinical periodontics. This study suggests a need for calibration training for adjunct faculty to ensure consistent grading practices.

  • A pilot study analyzed 845 scores from 208 dental students in D3 and D4 clinical periodontics.
  • Grades from 7 full-time and 11 adjunct faculty were compared using mixed model regression.

  • Adjunct faculty assigned grades that were, on average, 0.14 points higher (out of 5) than full-time faculty (p<0.0001).
