Summary

Tocilizumab treatment in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients reduced anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibody levels. This may occur by altering the balance of B-cell subpopulations, specifically the ratio of post-switch memory to naive B cells.

  • Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibodies are key biomarkers in RA pathogenesis and diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the impact of tocilizumab on peripheral B-cell subpopulations in RA patients.
  • To determine tocilizumab's effect on anti-CCP antibody production in RA.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study of 13 RA patients initiating tocilizumab.
  • Evaluation of anti-CCP antibody titers and clinical parameters.
  • Flow cytometry analysis of peripheral blood B-cell subsets.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvement in RA disease activity and decreased anti-CCP antibody titers at 24 weeks.
