Direct detection of the idler THz radiation generated by spontaneous parametric down-conversion
We demonstrate detecting faint terahertz (THz) photons from parametric down-conversion (PDC). This opens possibilities for generating quantum-correlated optical and THz photon pairs.
Area of Science:
- Quantum optics
- Terahertz (THz) photonics
Background:
- Parametric down-conversion (PDC) generates quantum-correlated photon pairs.
- Strongly frequency non-degenerate PDC is promising for generating optical and THz photon pairs.
Purpose of the Study:
- To demonstrate the detection of low-gain spontaneous PDC generated THz photon fluxes.
- To analyze the dependence of THz radiation power on detection angle and pump intensity.
Main Methods:
- Utilizing parametric down-conversion (PDC) in the strongly frequency non-degenerate regime.
- Employing a hot electron bolometer for detecting tenuous THz-frequency photon fluxes.
- Analyzing experimental dependencies of THz radiation power.
Main Results:
- Demonstrated the possibility of detecting THz photon fluxes from low-gain spontaneous PDC.
- Analyzed the relationship between THz power, detection angle, and pump intensity.
Conclusions:
- Successful detection of THz photons from PDC is achieved.
- The study provides insights into generating and detecting quantum-correlated optical and THz photon pairs.
