Background:

Rapid advancements in healthcare necessitate efficient knowledge translation (KT) tools for physicians.
Deficiencies in KT lead to unnecessary procedures, increased healthcare costs, and potential patient risks.
The Software for the Evolution of Knowledge in MEDicine (SEKMED) platform offers evidence-based recommendations for clinical decision-making.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the utility and usability of the SEKMED platform in a real-world clinical setting at the Centre intégré de santé et des services sociaux de l'Outaouais, Quebec, Canada.
To evaluate the integration of evidence-based recommendations into daily clinical practice among physicians and medical students.
To measure improvements in clinical practices and the perceived value of the SEKMED platform by healthcare professionals.

Main Methods:

A 4-phase project: orientation, data synthesis, recommendation development/validation, and implementation/monitoring over 2 years.
Involves 20 emergency physicians, 20 patient care unit physicians, and 10 medical students from McGill University.
Six specific research objectives focus on practice integration, improvements, user experience, and educational/organizational benefits.

Main Results:

The project commenced in June 2018, with data collection concluding in December 2019 and analysis beginning in Winter 2020.
Ethics approval has been obtained, and both major hospitals in the Outaouais region are participating.
The study is funded by the Fonds de soutien à l'innovation en santé et en services sociaux for 24 months.

Conclusions:

The study protocol is designed to rigorously evaluate the SEKMED platform's efficacy and usability.
Positive findings may lead to a large-scale implementation of the SEKMED system.
This initiative aims to enhance clinical decision-making and optimize healthcare delivery through improved knowledge translation.
