Maximum Power Transfer01:16

Maximum Power Transfer

872
Numerous practical applications within engineering disciplines, such as telecommunications, necessitate optimizing power delivery to a connected load. This pursuit, however, entails inherent internal losses, which can either equal or exceed the power supplied to the load. The Thevenin equivalent circuit is helpful in finding the maximum power a linear circuit can deliver to a load. It is assumed in this context that the load resistance can be adjusted.
By substituting the entire circuit with...

The Maximum Power Transfer Theorem01:20

The Maximum Power Transfer Theorem

1.2K
Consider a linear AC Thevenin equivalent circuit connected to a load impedance.
The load connected draws the current, and the circuit delivers the power to the load. The alternating current flowing through the load is determined using the rectangular form of voltages, currents, network impedance, and load impedance. The average power delivered to the load is obtained from the product of the square of current and load resistance.

Power Distribution in Three-phase and Single Phase Circuits

617
Power distribution within electrical circuits is a foundational aspect of residential and industrial energy systems. While single-phase power is common in residential settings, three-phase power is the standard for industrial environments with heavy machinery. Each system is different and has advantages, and it's crucial to understand the underlying principles of power distribution and material efficiency.

Single-phase circuits are typical in household settings;...

Power

12.9K
The concept of work involves force and displacement; meanwhile, the work-energy theorem relates the net work done on a body to the difference in its kinetic energy, calculated between two points on its trajectory. While none of these quantities or relations involves time explicitly, we know that the time available to accomplish work is often just as important as the amount of work itself. For example, sprinters in a race may have achieved the same velocity at the finish, therefore,...

Nuclear Power

9.4K
Controlled nuclear fission reactions are used to generate electricity. Any nuclear reactor that produces power via the fission of uranium or plutonium by bombardment with neutrons has six components: nuclear fuel consisting of fissionable material, a nuclear moderator, a neutron source, control rods, reactor coolant, and a shield and containment system.
Nuclear Fuels
Nuclear fuel consists of a fissile isotope, such as uranium-235, which must be present in sufficient quantity to provide a...

Sums of Power01:22

Sums of Power

65
In definite integration, Riemann sums approximate the area under a curve by dividing it into subintervals and summing the areas of rectangles. When these approximations follow predictable numerical patterns, such as arithmetic or polynomial sequences, sum formulas offer a more efficient and accurate way to compute the result. In particular, the sum of consecutive integers, squares, and cubes plays an essential role in simplifying these calculations, especially when dealing with uniform...

Area of Science:

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Electromagnetics
  • Medical Imaging

Background:

  • Wireless power transfer is crucial for medical microrobots, but transmitter coils can degrade MRI signal-to-noise ratio.
  • Controlled single-sided transmitters are needed to enhance imaging and reduce radiation leakage.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a novel electromagnet for wireless power transfer that enhances magnetic field intensity on the target side.
  • To suppress magnetic field leakage to the back lobes for improved MRI quality.
  • To miniaturize the wireless power transmitter system.

Main Methods:

  • A three-dimensional (3D) coil scheme inspired by generalized Halbach arrays was used to replace traditional circular coils.
  • The electromagnet design automatically cancels magnetic field back lobes.
  • A wireless charging pad was fabricated using 3D-assembled printed circuit boards.

Main Results:

  • The new design significantly reduces power transfer to the back lobe (15-fold less than the main lobe).
  • Powering efficiency remains comparable to conventional planar coils.
  • The 3D structure eliminates the need for traditional magnetic shielding materials.

Conclusions:

  • The proposed 3D electromagnet array offers improved magnetic field control for wireless power transfer in medical applications.
  • This technology enhances MRI quality by suppressing radiation leakage.
  • The miniaturized system and integrated design pave the way for more efficient and effective medical microrobot systems.
