This study developed openEHR archetypes for the ObsCare electronic health record (EHR) system, enhancing obstetric data representation and clinical research capabilities.
Area of Science:
- Medical Informatics
- Health Information Technology
- Clinical Data Standards
Background:
- Electronic health records (EHRs) are crucial for healthcare communication and clinical research, especially in obstetrics.
- The ObsCare software was developed to meet the specific needs of obstetric electronic health records.
- Standardization of obstetric data is essential for improving data interoperability and research.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop openEHR archetypes for representing the ObsCare EHR form.
- To create an openEHR-template using the developed archetypes for enhanced obstetric data management.
- To improve the representation of specific obstetric clinical concepts within a standardized framework.
Main Methods:
- Selection and description of the ObsCare form.
- Analysis using the Clinical Knowledge Manager (CKM).
- Modelling of openEHR archetypes and creation/testing of an openEHR-template.
Main Results:
- Development of a 'Newborn summary' openEHR archetype.
- Incorporation of unrepresented clinical concepts: hours of life, newborn movement examination, and reflex examination.
- Successful creation of an openEHR-template converted into an EHR using VCIntegrator.
Conclusions:
- The developed openEHR archetypes enhance the representation of obstetric data.
- The study highlights the potential for openEHR to improve obstetric and gynecologic clinical research.
- Further modeling of obstetric-gynecologic clinical statements into openEHR is recommended.
