  • Understanding the relationship between EAT and cognitive decline is crucial for early detection and prevention strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate differences in metabolic and cognitive variables between individuals with varying epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) thickness.
  • To determine the predictive value of EAT levels for cognitive functioning.

Main Methods:

  • A cohort of 65 community-dwelling subjects was divided into two groups based on EAT thickness (< 7 mm and > 7 mm).
  • Transthoracic echocardiography was used to measure EAT thickness, and biochemical parameters assessed metabolic profiles.
  • Cognitive function was evaluated using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE).

Main Results:

  • Significant differences were observed between the EAT groups, including variations in MMSE scores.
