Short-distance transport refers to transport that occurs over a distance of just 2-3 cells, crossing the plasma membrane in the process. Hospital managers can inadvertently trigger "death spirals of quality" due to a lack of systemic thinking. This study models human resources service capacity to demonstrate this phenomenon and identify coping policies.
