Association between interleukin-10 gene polymorphisms and severe chronic periodontitis

Genetic variations in interleukin-10 (IL-10) may influence periodontitis risk. The IL-10 -1082(G/A) polymorphism and AGC haplotype were linked to chronic periodontitis susceptibility in an Iranian population.

- The IL-10 -1082(G/A) polymorphism may play a role in modulating the risk of developing chronic periodontitis.
- The AGC (-592/-1082/-819) haplotype of the IL-10 gene is significantly associated with increased susceptibility to chronic periodontitis.
- These findings suggest that specific IL-10 genetic variations could serve as biomarkers for periodontitis risk.
