Kidney Transplant II: Surgical Procedure01:26

Kidney Transplant II: Surgical Procedure

370
Preoperative ManagementThe primary goals of preoperative management in kidney transplantation are to optimize the patient’s metabolic state and prepare them for surgery through diet adjustments, necessary dialysis, and tailored medical treatment. This phase also involves comprehensive infection screening and patient education about the surgical procedure and postoperative care to improve outcomes and adherence.Medical ManagementA comprehensive evaluation is required for both the living...

Hybridoma Technology01:31

Hybridoma Technology

17.3K
Hybridoma technology is used for the large-scale production of monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies bind to only a single antigenic determinant or epitope. Such antibodies are used in research, diagnostics, and disease therapy. The hybridoma technology established in 1975 by Georges Köhler and Cesar Milstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1984 for revolutionizing research and therapy.

Blind Procedures

13.4K
Ideally, the people who observe and record the children’s behavior are unaware of who was assigned to the experimental or control group, in order to control for experimenter bias. Experimenter bias refers to the possibility that a researcher’s expectations might skew the results of the study. Remember, conducting an experiment requires a lot of planning, and the people involved in the research project have a vested interest in supporting their hypotheses. If the observers knew which...

The Fossil Record02:56

The Fossil Record

27.2K
The fossil record documents only a small fraction of all organisms that have ever inhabited Earth. Fossilization is a rare process, and most organisms never become fossils. Moreover, the fossil record only exhibits fossils that have been discovered. Nevertheless, sedimentary rock fossils of long-lived, abundant, hard-bodied organisms dominate the fossil record. These fossils offer valuable information, such as an organism's physical form, behavior, and age. Studying the fossil record helps...

Data Reporting and Recording01:24

Data Reporting and Recording

5.4K
Reporting and recording are crucial in data documentation. The timely, thorough, and accurate documentation of facts is essential when recording patient data. Failure to record findings during an assessment or interpretation of a problem will result in loss of information and make the patient document unreliable. The reader is left with general impressions if the information is not specific. A recording is documenting data of the individual's health information in a traceable, secure, and...

Area of Science:

  • Medical Technology
  • Surgical Innovation
  • Mobile Health Applications

Background:

  • The advancement of mobile technology presents opportunities in medicine.
  • Recording open surgical procedures remains an underdeveloped area due to a lack of specialized software.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the feasibility of using a smartphone for recording open surgical procedures.
  • To assess the quality of video recordings captured during neck surgeries using a mobile device.

Main Methods:

  • Five neck surgeries were recorded using an iPhone SE and a custom-developed application.
  • Video recordings were evaluated for image quality by a three-person jury.

Main Results:

  • Four out of five surgical procedures were successfully recorded.
  • The recorded video quality was deemed acceptable by the evaluation jury.
  • One recording failed due to insufficient device storage.

Conclusions:

  • Smartphones, coupled with specialized applications and adequate storage, can facilitate surgical video recording.
  • Ensuring patient privacy is crucial for implementing this technology.
  • Mobile devices offer a practical and cost-effective method for surgical procedure documentation.
