Abstract:
School shootings are increasing nationally. In response, campus safety and security efforts have become a priority across the country. Most institutions have developed appropriate emergency response plans, and many have held practice drills. Preparedness typically involves safety during and in the minutes directly following the event. But in the wake of tragedy, long-term recovery is a journey that requires and deserves the same amount of deliberation. The ultimate goal is a return to learning and teaching; however, an intentional focus on full recovery in the aftermath of tragedy is vital.
