The association between apolipoprotein E and gallstone disease: an updated meta-analysis

This meta-analysis found no significant link between apolipoprotein E (APOE) E4 and gallstone disease (GSD) risk. Further large-scale studies are needed to confirm these findings and explore other genetic factors in GSD.

- Subgroup analyses by gender and age, as well as sensitivity analyses excluding certain genotypes or low-quality studies, did not alter the main finding of no significant association.
Conclusions:
- Current evidence from this meta-analysis is insufficient to establish a link between APOE E4 and GSD risk.
- Larger, well-controlled future studies are recommended to validate these findings and investigate other potential genetic contributors to GSD.
