Molluscum contagiosum (MC) are common skin lesions. Isolated eyelid MC in children presents diagnostic and therapeutic challenges, as illustrated by a case report of successful surgical excision.
Area of Science:
- Dermatology
- Ophthalmology
- Virology
Background:
- Molluscum contagiosum (MC) are benign skin lesions caused by the Molluscipoxvirus.
- MC primarily affects children and young adults, typically involving the skin but rarely mucous membranes.
Observation:
- Eyelid MC is a rare presentation, posing diagnostic challenges due to its isolated nature and therapeutic difficulties because of its proximity to the eye.
- A case of a 7-year-old girl with an isolated eyelid lesion is presented.
Findings:
- Clinical diagnosis of MC is generally straightforward and confirmed histologically.
- The presented case involved surgical excision of the eyelid lesion, with subsequent anatomopathological examination confirming molluscum contagiosum.
Implications:
- This case highlights the clinical, therapeutic, and evolutionary aspects of rare eyelid MC localization.
- Understanding these features is crucial for effective management of this condition.
