Summary
Anti-phishing training is vital for cybersecurity. This study found that while classroom training is preferred, it did not significantly reduce participants' susceptibility to phishing emails compared to other methods.
Area of Science:
- Cybersecurity
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Information Security Training
Background:
- Phishing remains a significant cyber-attack vector, with technical defenses alone proving insufficient.
- Effective user education is critical to mitigate phishing threats and enhance overall cybersecurity posture.
- Existing anti-phishing training methods require evaluation for efficacy in reducing user susceptibility.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of instructor-led classroom training in reducing participant phishing susceptibility.
- To compare a combined training approach (video, game, text) with and without classroom instruction.
- To determine if additional classroom training significantly improves phishing susceptibility reduction.
Main Methods:
- A 2x2 mixed factorial design was employed to assess participant phishing susceptibility.
- Participants received a multi-modal training package (video, game, text).
- The study compared outcomes with and without supplementary instructor-led classroom training.
Main Results:
- Incorporating classroom training showed an insignificant improvement in reducing phishing susceptibility.
- No significant difference in susceptibility reduction was observed between training groups.
- Participants expressed a preference for classroom training when a single method choice was required.
Conclusions:
- While users may prefer classroom-based anti-phishing training, its addition does not significantly enhance susceptibility reduction.
- Current multi-modal training approaches may be sufficient, and further research into optimal training delivery is warranted.
- Focusing solely on classroom training may not be the most effective strategy for improving user resilience against phishing attacks.

Self-Awareness and Its Effects
288
Self-awareness is a psychological state in which the individual becomes the focal point of their attention. This inward focus transforms the self into an object of contemplation and assessment, influencing how individuals perceive their actions and their alignment with personal and societal standards.Triggers and Contexts for Self-AwarenessSelf-awareness can be activated by external stimuli that make individuals visually or audibly aware of themselves, such as mirrors, cameras, or recordings.

Altered States of Awareness
1.0K
Altered states of consciousness represent significant deviations from one's normal mental state. These deviations can range from subtle changes in awareness to profound transformations in perception, thought processes, and sensory experiences. Altered states of consciousness can be triggered by various factors, including drug use, meditation, hypnosis, illness, or even intense fatigue.

Subconsciousness and No Awareness
669
The concept of subconscious awareness refers to the processing of information below the level of conscious thought, which significantly influences both behaviors and decisions. It is also known as waking subconscious awareness. This complex level of cognition operates without the direct awareness of the individual, facilitating rapid and simultaneous handling of multiple information streams.

High-Level and Low-Level Awareness
631
Controlled processes in human consciousness represent high-alert mental states where individuals deliberately focus their attention on achieving specific goals. Controlled processes can be seen in situations like mastering new technology, where a person might become so absorbed that they ignore surrounding distractions. Such processes involve selective attention, requiring one to concentrate on particular elements of experience while disregarding others. These are governed by executive...

Natural Selection and Mating Preferences
498
The principle of natural selection posits that organisms better adapted to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce. This principle is closely intertwined with mating preferences, a key aspect of sexual selection, which evolutionary psychologists believe is driven by instincts to propagate one's genes. Such instincts significantly influence mating behaviors and preferences between genders.
