Summary

Robotic cholecystectomy is a safe and feasible approach for treating acute calculous cholecystitis. This minimally invasive technique offers excellent outcomes, even in complex cases of gangrenous or empyematous cholecystitis.

Robotics in Surgery: A Modular Robotic Platform Driven Gastric Wedge Resection

Background:

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard for acute calculous cholecystitis.
Robotic cholecystectomy is gaining interest due to potential benefits.
Studies suggest robotic surgery reduces conversion rates in complex cases.

Observation:

Three patients with moderate acute calculous cholecystitis underwent robotic cholecystectomy.
Diagnoses included two empyematous and one gangrenous cholecystitis.
The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System was used for all procedures.

Findings:

Mean operative time was 128 minutes with average blood loss of 60 mL.
No intraoperative complications occurred.
All patients had uneventful postoperative periods and were discharged within 24 hours.

Implications:

Robotic cholecystectomy is feasible and safe for acute calculous cholecystitis.
This approach may reduce conversion rates in emergency surgical settings.
The findings support the inclusion of robotic surgery in emergency care protocols.
