Background:

  • Health-related quality of life (QoL) is a critical endpoint in bronchiectasis (BE).
  • Existing QoL questionnaires for BE are often time-consuming or lack validation.
  • The COPD Assessment Test (CAT) offers a user-friendly alternative.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To conduct a comprehensive validation of the CAT questionnaire in patients with bronchiectasis.
  • To assess the psychometric properties and clinical utility of the CAT in a BE population.

Main Methods:

  • An observational, multicenter, prospective study involving 96 BE patients followed for 1 year.
  • Evaluation of psychometric properties including internal consistency, repeatability, and various forms of validity (discriminant, convergent, longitudinal, predictive).
  • Determination of sensitivity to change and minimum clinically important difference (MCID).

  • The CAT demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.95) and repeatability (ICC = 0.95).

  • The CAT is a valuable tool for assessing QoL and monitoring disease progression in bronchiectasis.
