Reliability and Validity01:29

Reliability and Validity

13.7K
Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Data Validation01:03

Data Validation

6.3K
Data validation is an essential part of a comprehensive assessment. Validation is confirming or verifying and opening the door to gathering more assessment data as it clarifies vague or unclear data. The process of checking and verifying the collected information is called data validation. The primary purpose of data validation is to ensure data is as free from error, bias, and misinterpretation as possible.

Method validation is a crucial process in analytical chemistry designed to confirm that a given method consistently produces reliable and high-quality results. This process is essential when a method is applied to different sample matrices or when procedural modifications are made, ensuring that the results meet acceptable standards across various applications.
Key parameters for method validation include:

Social skills play a crucial role in shaping interpersonal interactions and enhancing individuals' ability to navigate various social environments successfully. These skills contribute to personal and professional success, influencing how others perceive and treat individuals. High social skills provide distinct advantages in numerous settings, including romantic relationships, politics, and legal proceedings. In courtroom settings, for instance, defendants who exhibit strong social skills are...

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II

3.6K
Nursing diagnoses represent a problem validated by major defining characteristics. There are four categories of nursing diagnoses: problem-focused, risk, health promotion or wellness, and syndrome. The anatomy of a nursing diagnosis includes three components: problem statement or diagnostic label, defining characteristics, and related factors.
Risk nursing diagnoses represent clinical judgments of an individual, family, or community more vulnerable to developing the health problem than others...

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis I

3.6K
A nursing diagnosis is written when the nurse recognizes a cluster of essential patient data indicating health problems treated with independent nursing interventions. The standardized terminologies of a nursing diagnosis help nurses identify and treat patients' problems. Every electronic health record that uses nursing diagnosis must employ standard diagnostic terminology. Developing an efficient, individualized care plan begins with accurate nursing diagnoses.
There are thirteen domains...

Area of Science:

  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Medical Education
  • Surgical Skills Assessment

Background:

  • The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery utilize "milestones" for resident evaluation.
  • Assessing resident progression in medical education requires validated tools.
  • The study aimed to validate an evaluation tool against surgical experience and training progression.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if the Arthroscopic Surgical Skills Evaluation Tool (ASSET) correlates with resident surgical experience.
  • To assess if ASSET scores correlate with a resident's year in training.
  • To evaluate if ASSET demonstrates progression in resident performance over time.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of curriculum assessment data.
  • Two blinded orthopedic surgeons evaluated resident performance on knee arthroscopy using ASSET.
  • Residents underwent a structured arthroscopy curriculum and gained clinical experience over 3 years.

Main Results:

  • ASSET scores showed a strong correlation with the number of arthroscopic procedures performed (r=0.946).
  • ASSET scores also correlated significantly with the residents' year in training (r=0.89).
  • Residents demonstrated significant improvement in ASSET scores after completing the arthroscopy curriculum (p < 0.01).

Conclusions:

  • Resident performance on ASSET is validated by arthroscopic experience and training level.
  • Performance on ASSET improves with additional years of training, demonstrating validity over time.
  • ASSET is a suitable tool for assessing residents' technical proficiency per accreditation guidelines.
