The Participant-Reported Implementation Update and Score (PRIUS): A Novel Method for Capturing Implementation-Related Data Over Time

1.6K
This protocol describes a novel method for collecting and analyzing data related to ongoing implementation called the Participant-Reported Implementation Update and Score (PRIUS). The PRIUS method allows for the efficient and systematic capture of data over time and from multiple viewpoints in healthcare settings.

Design and Implementation of a Rat Ex Vivo Lung Perfusion Model

1.2K
Ex vivo lungs are useful for a variety of experiments to collect physiological data while excluding the confounding variables of in vivo experiments. Commercial setups are often expensive and limited in the types of data they can collect. We describe a method for building a fully modular setup, adaptable for various study designs.

Design to Implementation Study for Development and Patient Validation of Paper-Based Toehold Switch Diagnostics

3.4K
Access to decentralized, low-cost, and high-capacity diagnostics that can be deployed into the community for decentralized testing is critical for combating global health crises. This manuscript describes how to build paper-based diagnostics for viral RNA sequences that can be detected with a portable optical...

Design and Implementation of an fMRI Study Examining Thought Suppression in Young Women with, and At-risk, for Depression

11.2K
We aim to identify the neural correlates underlying sustained and transient thought suppression, and thought re-emergence in controls, at-risk and depressed individuals. Activation was greatest for controls compared to the at-risk and the depressed group in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex during thought suppression and anterior cingulate cortex during thought...

CRISPR-Cas9-based Genome Engineering to Generate Jurkat Reporter Models for HIV-1 Infection with Selected Proviral Integration Sites

10.3K
We present a genome engineering workflow for the generation of new in vitro models for HIV-1 infection that recapitulate proviral integration at selected genomic sites. Targeting of HIV-derived reporters is facilitated by CRISPR-Cas9-mediated, site-specific genome manipulation. Detailed protocols for single-cell clone generation, screening, and correct targeting verification are...

Area of Science:

  • Pharmaceutical Sciences Education
  • Competency-Based Pharmacy Training

Background:

  • Following a national review and legislation, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) redesigned its pharmacy program.
  • The previous 4+1 model (B.Sc. + internship) was replaced by a new integrated structure.

Observation:

  • The new program is a five-year integrated Master's degree in Pharmacy (M.Pharm.).
  • Curricular integration is achieved through a national competency framework and thematic elements.
  • Experiential learning placements are embedded in Years 2, 4, and 5.

Findings:

  • The integrated program commenced in 2015, aligning education with national standards.
  • This model ensures a cohesive and progressive learning experience from foundational to advanced pharmacy practice.
  • The curriculum is underpinned by a national competency framework for pharmacists.

Implications:

  • This reform enhances pharmacy education and training in Ireland.
  • The integrated approach aims to produce highly competent pharmacists prepared for contemporary practice.
  • It represents a significant shift towards a competency-focused model in pharmaceutical sciences education.
