Summary

Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) show good survival for peritoneal mesothelioma patients. The incidence of diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (DMPM) has increased, with improved survival rates observed nationally.

Dried Blood Spot Collection of Health Biomarkers to Maximize Participation in Population Studies

Biomarkers are directly-measured biological indicators of disease or health. In population and social sciences, biomarkers need to be easy to obtain, transport, and analyze. Dried Blood Spot (DBS) collection meets this need, can be collected in the field with high response rates and analyzed for a variety of...

Harvesting Peritoneal Fat Depots: A Technique to Study Ovarian Cancer Colonization of Peritoneal Adipose Tissues in Mouse Models

In this video, we use a euthanized female mouse model bearing ovarian cancer. We then describe a protocol to identify and extract fat depots or adipose tissues associated with the five primary peritoneal organs to study metastatic cancer cell...

Isolation of Mouse Peritoneal Cavity Cells04:32

Isolation of Mouse Peritoneal Cavity Cells

The peritoneal cavity in mammals contains different immune cell populations crucial for innate immune responses. An efficient isolation method is required for biochemical and functional analyses of these cells. Here we provide a comprehensive method for the isolation of peritoneal cavity cells in the...

Genotypic Inference of HIV-1 Tropism Using Population-based Sequencing of V3

HIV tropism can be inferred from the V3 region of the viral envelope. V3 is PCR amplified in triplicate using nested RT-PCR, sequenced, and interpreted using bioinformatic software. Samples with with 1 or more sequence(s) with low g2P scores are classified as non-R5...

What is Population Genetics?01:25

What is Population Genetics?

A population is composed of members of the same species that simultaneously live and interact in the same area. When individuals in a population breed, they pass down their genes to their offspring. Many of these genes are polymorphic, meaning that they occur in multiple variants. Such variations of a gene are referred to as alleles. The collective set of all the alleles within a population is known as the gene pool.
