Current Trends in Nursing II

3.3K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

5.6K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Nursing Implementation01:15

Nursing Implementation

5.9K
Implementation is the execution of the nursing care plan developed during the planning phase.
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.

Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice

16.5K
Theories play an essential role in organizing patient care. Theories refer to a proposed or followed belief, policy, or procedure that is the basis for action. Nursing theories are knowledge-based concepts that guide nurses' actions, influence nursing education and practice, and allow nurses to care for their patients.
Theories provide a perspective to assess patients' conditions and organize data and methods. They also assist in analyzing and interpreting information. They represent a...

Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

1.9K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

    Summary

The length of immersive clinical experiences did not impact nursing students' readiness for practice, anxiety, or self-confidence. Findings suggest that both 4-week and 14-week clinicals yield similar outcomes for Generation Z nursing students.

    Area of Science:

    • Nursing Education
    • Healthcare Professions

    Background:

    • Generation Z nursing students, born after 1995, are characterized as digital natives.
    • Concerns exist regarding their attention spans and potential for boredom in traditional learning environments.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare practice readiness, anxiety, and self-confidence in Generation Z nursing students.
    • To evaluate the impact of 4-week versus 14-week immersive clinical experiences on these outcomes.

    Main Methods:

    • A pilot study surveyed 46 graduating baccalaureate nursing students from Generation Z.
    • Convenience sampling was utilized to recruit participants.

    Main Results:

    • Independent samples t tests revealed no statistically significant differences between the two groups.

  • Outcomes regarding readiness for practice, anxiety, and self-confidence were comparable.
  • Conclusions:

    • Extended immersive clinical durations do not appear to influence practice readiness or decision-making confidence in Generation Z nursing students.
    • These findings suggest current clinical structures are adequate for preparing this demographic.
