Area of Science:
- Education
- Organizational Psychology
- Higher Education
Background:
- Work-based passion is linked to positive outcomes in education.
- The transfer of passion from educators to students remains under-researched.
- Existing research lacks focus on passion transference mechanisms.
Purpose of the Study:
- To examine the transference of teacher work passion to student work passion.
- To investigate the mediating role of emotional contagion in this transference.
- To explore the influence of teacher's educational level (PhD vs. non-PhD) on passion transference.
Main Methods:
- Study involved 226 teacher-student dyads from Pakistani business schools.
- Data collected between November and December 2018.
- Statistical analyses included exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (AMOS 24.0) and SPSS PROCESS macro for hypothesis testing.
Main Results:
- Teacher work passion significantly transfers to student work passion indirectly through emotional contagion.
- The passion transference effect is stronger when teachers possess a PhD.
- Emotional contagion acts as a key mechanism in this educational context.
Conclusions:
- This study is among the first to investigate work passion transference from teachers to students in higher education.
- Findings offer theoretical insights into passion dynamics and practical implications for educators.
- Highlights the importance of teacher qualifications (e.g., PhD) in fostering student passion.
