Background:

  • Splenectomy, often necessitated by trauma, carries a lifelong risk of overwhelming sepsis from encapsulated bacteria.
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae is the most common pathogen causing post-splenectomy sepsis.
  • Splenic autotransplantation aims to restore splenic function in patients undergoing splenectomy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To systematically review the literature on the efficacy of spleen autotransplantation.
  • To evaluate the functional recovery of splenic tissue after autotransplantation.
  • To assess the impact of splenic autotransplantation on immunoglobulin levels and post-operative complications.

Main Methods:

  • A systematic literature search was conducted using MEDLINE, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library.
