Long noncoding RNA IFNG-AS1 and interferon gamma (IFN-γ) show increased expression in brucellosis patients. IFNG-AS1 may serve as a potential biomarker for brucellosis screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
Area of Science:
- Immunology
- Molecular Biology
- Infectious Diseases
Background:
- Brucellosis is a prevalent bacterial zoonotic infection with pathogen persistence.
- Understanding host immune responses is crucial for managing brucellosis.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the relationship between long noncoding RNA IFNG-AS1 and interferon gamma (IFN-γ) in brucellosis patients.
- To evaluate IFNG-AS1 as a potential biomarker in different stages of brucellosis.
Main Methods:
- Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to measure LncRNA IFNG-AS1, T-bet, and IFN-γ expression in PBMCs.
- Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to assess serum IFN-γ levels.
- Comparison between 60 brucellosis patients (acute, chronic, relapse) and 20 controls.
Main Results:
- Significantly elevated LncRNA IFNG-AS1, T-bet, and IFN-γ expression in all brucellosis patient groups compared to controls.
- Higher serum IFN-γ levels observed in acute and relapsed brucellosis groups.
- No significant difference in T-bet expression between chronic brucellosis and healthy groups.
Conclusions:
- LncRNA IFNG-AS1 plays a role in the immune response to brucellosis by enhancing IFN-γ expression.
- LncRNA IFNG-AS1 presents a promising potential biomarker for brucellosis screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
