Introduction to Developmental Psychology01:27

Introduction to Developmental Psychology

1.3K
Developmental psychology explores the changes and continuities in human abilities throughout life, encompassing physical, cognitive, linguistic, and social dimensions. Human development is not restricted to growth, but includes aspects of decline, particularly in physical abilities as individuals age. Developmental psychologists seek to understand how people change as they age and how their mental and social skills evolve.Developmental MilestonesA key concept in developmental psychology is...

Self-Esteem01:28

Self-Esteem

176
Self-esteem, a core aspect of psychological well-being, reflects an individual's positive and negative self-evaluation in terms of worth, competence, and overall value. It is both a stable trait and a dynamic process, influenced by experiences and social interactions across the lifespan. While global self-esteem offers a general assessment, research highlights that self-esteem is multidimensional and varies across specific life domains.Domain-Specific Self-EsteemResearchers have delineated...

Emerging Adulthood

555
Jeffrey Arnett's concept of emerging adulthood offers a framework to understand the unique developmental stage between adolescence and full-fledged adulthood, generally from ages 18 to 25. This period is marked by extensive exploration and shifts in identity, relationships, and career choices, a process known in psychology as role experimentation. Emerging adulthood reflects the evolving cultural expectations surrounding adulthood and the dynamic process of personal transformation during...

Guidelines for Writing Outcome

3.6K
When developing expected outcomes for a patient care plan, the nurse should adhere to the following recommendations:
Patient outcomes reflect the patient's response to the goal rather than what the nurse aims to achieve. Terminology should be observable and measurable to avoid the reader's interpretation. The desired outcome should be realistic and achievable in the designated care timeframe. Expected outcomes should align with adjunctive therapies. The outcome should enhance care...

Three Developmental Domains01:29

Three Developmental Domains

902
Human development is typically examined across three main domains: physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional. These domains represent the significant areas of change and continuity throughout the lifespan, from infancy to late adulthood.
Physical Development
Physical processes, also known as maturation, encompass the biological changes that occur across an individual's life. These changes begin with genetic inheritance and continue through various stages, including growth in height and weight,...

Relationship Growth

170
Interpersonal relationships progress through stages, beginning with awareness and moving toward mutuality, where emotional connections deepen. While many relationships remain at moderate levels of mutuality, deeper connections form through self-disclosure, trust, and interdependence.Self-DisclosureSelf-disclosure involves revealing personal information, starting with surface-level details and gradually progressing to more intimate content. As trust grows, individuals feel more comfortable...

Area of Science:

  • Medical Education
  • Faculty Development
  • Academic Medicine

Background:

  • Increasing demand for residency faculty and a growing number of programs strain faculty recruitment.
  • Recent residency graduates often lack academic training and require mentorship for career advancement.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate a milestone-based process for educating recent residency graduates in teaching and scholarly activities.
  • To provide a clear career trajectory for early-career clinicians.

Main Methods:

  • Created a milestone system based on the six core competencies from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
  • Defined four levels of clinician/academician maturation for each competence, including goals and activities.
  • Validated milestones by assessing faculty time in academic medicine and academic rank.

Main Results:

  • Higher academic rank correlated with higher scores across all competencies.
  • A statistically significant association was found between systems-based practice and years in academics.
  • Other categories showed nonsignificant associations.

Conclusions:

  • The developed milestones align with faculty academic development and career progression.
  • These milestones can guide career advancement for residency clinicians.
  • Further validation in other family medicine programs is recommended.
