  • Acute abdomen (AA) management is complex due to varied pathophysiology.
  • AA complications post-cardiac surgery are associated with poor patient outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify and evaluate risk factors for acute abdomen in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
  • To analyze factors contributing to in-hospital mortality in this patient cohort.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 131 patients with AA after cardiac surgery (December 2011 - December 2014).
  • Statistical analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics to identify risk factors for in-hospital mortality.

Main Results:

  • Overall in-hospital mortality was 54.2%.
  • Higher incidence of peripheral artery disease, need for assist device therapy, and hemodialysis in non-survivors.
  • Significantly elevated lactic acid levels and confirmed mesenteric ischemia were associated with worse outcomes.
