Summary

Microvascular decompression (MVD) surgery for hemifacial spasm (HFS) significantly lowered blood pressure in both hypertensive and normotensive patients. Reductions were more pronounced with left-sided vessel or vertebrobasilar artery involvement.

Background:

  • Hemifacial spasm (HFS) is often caused by neurovascular compression.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of MVD surgery on blood pressure in patients diagnosed with HFS.
  • To determine if MVD surgery influences blood pressure in patients with and without pre-existing hypertension.
