Abstract:
Capnocytophaga is an increasingly recognized genus of pathogens. Originally associated with periodontal disease, this fastidious, gram-negative organism is now established as the cause of a wide variety of infections in both the immunocompetent and immunocompromised. We treated a woman for amnionitis and subsequent neonatal colonization. Capnocytophaga should be considered one of the various organisms that can complicate the peripartum period.
