Area of Science:

  • Sexual Health
  • Urology
  • Behavioral Medicine

Background:

  • Premature ejaculation (PE) significantly impacts quality of life, confidence, and mental well-being.
  • Existing PE treatments have varying efficacy and potential side effects.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate vibrator-assisted start-stop exercises for PE treatment.
  • To determine if psychobehavioral intervention enhances the effectiveness of this method.

Main Methods:

  • Fifty participants with PE were randomized into two treatment groups and a waiting list control.
  • Treatment involved 6 weeks of vibrator-assisted start-stop exercises.
  • One group received additional psychoeducation and mindfulness meditation.

Main Results:

  • Vibrator-assisted exercises significantly reduced PE symptoms with large effect sizes.
  • The additional intervention did not further improve PE symptoms.
  • Psychobehavioral intervention decreased sexual distress, anxiety, and depression associated with PE.

Conclusions:

  • Vibrator-assisted start-stop exercises are an effective treatment for premature ejaculation.
  • This method is well-tolerated with no reported side effects.
  • Combined therapy may offer additional benefits for psychological distress in PE patients.
