Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are expected to demonstrate clinical leadership as part of their core competencies.
The integration of APNs into healthcare teams necessitates a supportive environment for their leadership roles.

Purpose of the Study:

To explore the role of management support in the effective implementation of clinical leadership by advanced practice nurses.
To identify foundational steps for reinforcing clinical leadership among APNs in the French healthcare system.

Main Methods:

Qualitative analysis of existing literature and policy documents.
Case study approach examining current practices in French healthcare settings.

Main Results:

Effective clinical leadership by APNs is contingent upon explicit and consistent management backing.
Lack of management support presents a significant barrier to APN leadership development and practice.

Conclusions:

Management support is a critical prerequisite for advanced practice nurses to exercise clinical leadership effectively.
Initiating management support is a vital first step in strengthening the clinical leadership capacity of APNs in France.
