Observation:

  • A 66-year-old male underwent a single-port robotic radical prostatectomy and left partial nephrectomy.
  • The procedure utilized the SP® da Vinci surgical system through a single supra-umbilical incision.
  • The patient had localized prostate cancer and an incidentally found renal mass.

Findings:

  • The combined surgery was completed successfully with a total operative time of 256 minutes.
  • Estimated blood loss was 250cc, with no transfusion required.
  • Pathology confirmed adenocarcinoma of the prostate (Gleason 7) and renal cell carcinoma; PSA was undetectable at two months post-op.

Implications:

  • Single-port robotic surgery facilitates combined procedures with potential for faster recovery and better cosmesis.
  • This approach may simplify surgical planning for multi-quadrant surgeries.
  • High-volume centers and experienced robotic surgeons are recommended for these complex combined procedures in selected patients.
