Area of Science:

  • Molecular Biology
  • Genetics
  • Biotechnology

Background:

  • Various methods exist for genotyping Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) and mutations in nucleic acid sequences, with applications in agriculture and medicine.
  • The Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) method, initially developed for pathogen detection, is an isothermal DNA amplification technique.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review studies utilizing the LAMP method for Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) detection.
  • To evaluate the reliability and potential of LAMP as an alternative genotyping technique.

Main Methods:

  • Literature review of studies employing LAMP for SNP detection.
  • LAMP utilizes four unique primers targeting six distinct gene regions for isothermal DNA amplification via strand displacement.

Main Results:

  • The LAMP technique demonstrated reliability in various studies for SNP detection.
  • The amplification and detection of target DNA sequences can be achieved in a single step.

Conclusions:

  • The LAMP method is a promising and reliable alternative for genotyping SNPs.
  • Further research is recommended to explore and validate the application of LAMP for genotyping.
