Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Oncology

Background:

  • Bladder leiomyoma is an uncommon, benign bladder tumor.
  • This study presents the first large endovesical leiomyoma case from Indonesia.
  • It also represents the largest reported bladder leiomyoma with no post-operative complications.

Observation:

  • A 42-year-old female presented with a year of painless hematuria and irritative voiding symptoms.
  • Cystoscopy revealed a large, well-encapsulated papillary solid mass at the bladder trigone.
  • Surgical excision measured 7 x 6.5 x 4 cm and weighed 800g.

Findings:

  • Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of endovesical leiomyoma of the urinary bladder.
  • The patient experienced a complete recovery with no post-operative symptoms.

Implications:

  • Open excision is a viable and effective treatment for large endovesical leiomyomas.
  • This case highlights successful management of a rare and sizable bladder tumor.
