The core is surrounded by a protective coat of proteins called the capsid. The capsid is composed of subunits called capsomeres. Summary

Viral membranotropic peptides, short sequences in viruses, are key to breaching cell membranes for genome delivery. Understanding these peptides in both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses can reveal similar entry mechanisms and biomedical applications.
