We developed novel phosphine-based covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for supporting rhodium catalysts. These P-COFs enable highly efficient and recyclable hydroformylation of olefins in heterogeneous catalysis.
Area of Science:
- Materials Science
- Catalysis
- Organic Chemistry
Background:
- Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are crystalline porous polymers with tunable properties.
- Phosphine-based functional materials are of interest for catalysis.
- Immobilizing homogeneous catalysts in heterogeneous supports can improve efficiency and recyclability.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize and characterize novel triphenylphosphine-based COFs (P-COFs).
- To evaluate the performance of rhodium catalysts supported on P-COFs for olefin hydroformylation.
- To demonstrate the application of P-COFs in heterogeneous catalysis.
Main Methods:
- Synthesis of triphenylphosphine-based COFs.
- Characterization of COF structures, surface areas, and thermal stability.
- Immobilization of rhodium catalysts onto P-COFs.
- Testing catalytic activity and recyclability in olefin hydroformylation.
Main Results:
- Two P-COFs with well-defined crystalline structures, high surface areas, and good thermal stability were successfully synthesized.
- Rhodium catalysts supported on P-COFs exhibited high turnover frequency in olefin hydroformylation.
- Excellent recycling performance of the supported rhodium catalysts was observed.
Conclusions:
- The study expands the family of phosphine-based COFs.
- P-COFs serve as effective supports for immobilizing homogeneous rhodium catalysts.
- This approach facilitates the application of metal-based catalysts in heterogeneous systems, enhancing efficiency and recyclability.
