Background:

Patient navigation models are crucial for optimizing cancer care delivery.
Adapting international models to local realities is essential for effective implementation.
Brazil's High Complexity Centers face unique challenges in cancer patient management.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop a patient navigation program tailored to the Brazilian context.
To adapt the George Washington University Cancer Institute's model for a Brazilian High Complexity Center.
To define the roles and attributions of patient navigators within the program.

Main Methods:

Convergent care research methodology was employed.
The George Washington University model was adapted through distinct research phases.
A Navigation Needs Assessment Scale was developed and validated using the Delphi Technique.

Main Results:

The Navigation Program was successfully developed and adapted for Brazilian oncology.
Head and neck cancer patients were identified for initial program inclusion.
A validated scale was created to assess patient needs and guide navigation support.

Conclusions:

A functional patient navigation program was established, adapted to Brazilian healthcare realities.
Clear attributions for patient navigators were defined.
The developed program provides a framework for enhanced cancer patient support in Brazil.
