Summary

A modified pain resource nurse curriculum improved hospice nurses' knowledge significantly in one educational session. This study suggests the curriculum is a valuable framework for pain management education in hospice care.

Background:

The pain resource nurse curriculum has not been previously studied in hospice settings.
This curriculum provides a structured approach to pain management education for nurses.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the impact of a modified pain resource nurse curriculum on nursing knowledge within a community hospice.
To assess the effectiveness of pain management training for hospice nurses.

Main Methods:

A condensed pain resource nurse curriculum was delivered in two educational sessions to hospice nurses.
A pre-test/post-test design using a modified survey assessed changes in nursing knowledge regarding pain.

Main Results:

Educational Session 1 showed a non-significant increase in knowledge scores.
Educational Session 2 demonstrated a statistically significant increase in average correct responses by 2.6 points.

Conclusions:

The pain resource nurse curriculum offers a viable instructional framework for hospice nurses.
Further research with a more robust study design is recommended to validate these findings.
