Summary

Researchers developed a transparent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding film using silver nanowires (Ag NWs) and poly(diallyldimethyl-ammonium chloride) (PDDA). This novel material offers excellent optical transmittance and EMI shielding effectiveness for optoelectronic devices.

Background:

Transparent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is crucial for optoelectronic devices.
Existing materials often compromise optical transmittance for shielding effectiveness.
There is a need for advanced materials combining high optical clarity and robust EMI shielding.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop a transparent EMI shielding film with superior performance.
To investigate the effect of treatments on silver nanowire (Ag NW) films.
To evaluate the optoelectrical properties and stability of the composite films.

Main Methods:

Fabrication of Ag NW films using a Mayer-rod coating method.
Post-treatment of Ag NW films with NaBH4 and poly(diallyldimethyl-ammonium chloride) (PDDA).
Characterization of sheet resistance, optical transmittance, figure of merit, stability, and EMI shielding effectiveness.

Main Results:

Ag NW/PDDA composite films achieved a sheet resistance of 22 Ω sq⁻¹ with 95.5% transmittance.
The figure of merit reached 443, surpassing commercial indium tin oxide (ITO).
Enhanced stability was observed during 35 days of aging.
Average EMI shielding effectiveness of 28 dB at 91.3% transmittance, increasing to 31.3 dB at 86.8% transmittance.

Conclusions:

The Ag NW/PDDA composite film is a promising transparent EMI shielding material.
It offers excellent optoelectrical performance and stability.
The material is suitable for applications in aerospace, medical devices, communication facilities, and electronic displays.
