Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the fine structural localization of ANAE activity in human periapical inflammatory cells.
  • To identify specific cell types within periapical granulomas based on ANAE expression.
  • To elucidate the role of these cells in the pathogenesis of periapical lesions.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of paraffin-embedded tissue sections from 20 human periapical lesions (granulomas).
  • Incubation of tissue specimens with ANAE to detect enzyme activity.
  • Microscopic examination to identify and classify ANAE-positive (ANAE+) and ANAE-negative (ANAE-) cells.

  • ANAE activity is a useful marker for identifying key immune cells in periapical lesions.
  • T-lymphocytes play a significant role in the immune response and pathogenesis of periapical granulomas.
  • Activated T-lymphocytes may be critical in the development and maintenance of periapical lesions.
