Background:

  • Leprosy, a chronic infectious disease, presents a spectrum of clinical and immunological manifestations.
  • Borderline Leprosy (BB) represents a critical immunological state within the leprosy spectrum.
  • Understanding immune responses in BB Leprosy is crucial for disease management.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the lepromin skin test response in patients with Borderline Leprosy.
  • To quantify circulating T and B lymphocyte levels in these patients.
  • To correlate lepromin reactivity with immune cell populations in BB Leprosy.

Main Methods:

  • Quantification of Dharmendra lepromin response in 15 BB Leprosy patients.
  • Measurement of circulating T cells (E-rosette forming cells) and B cells (EAC rosette forming cells) in peripheral blood.
  • Comparison of cell counts between BB Leprosy patients and healthy controls.

Main Results:

  • Patients exhibited diverse lepromin responses: negative, +/- reaction, or rarely positive.
  • No statistically significant differences were found in E-rosette forming cells (T cells) between BB Leprosy patients and controls.
