Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of CCR on disease knowledge, depressive symptoms, and heart-health behaviors in a Latin American population.
  • To compare CCR (exercise + education) against exercise-only CR and a wait-list control group.
  • To report pre-specified tertiary outcomes from a randomized controlled trial.

Main Methods:

  • A single-blinded, single-center randomized trial conducted in Brazil.
  • Three parallel arms: CCR, exercise-only CR, and wait-list control (1:1:1 allocation).
  • A 6-month CR program with outcomes assessed at baseline and 6 months using intention-to-treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analyses.

Main Results:

  • Significant improvements in disease knowledge were observed with CCR compared to both control groups (ITT P < .01).
